. >>> i'm phil lebeau. welcome back to the halftime report. more breaking news regarding that boeing 787 dreamliner that caught on fire while parked at logan airport in boston. this is video of the japan airlines plane. the plane landed. all of the passengers left the plane. a mechanic was doing a walk-through when he noticed a light smoke condition increasing from the underbelly of the plane. they then called the fire department. the fire department came. they investigated. the fire was in a compartment with batteries and other electrical components. they are still investigating exactly what has happened. we have a call into boeing. boeing has not responded to our request for more information. i think boeing is still trying to figure out, base odd what they're hearing out of boston from the fire investigators exactly what's going on with the 787 dreamliner. a couple of things to keep in mind, scott. the mass port officials at boston just held a press conference where they said prior to this they've had a few mechanical issues, nothing major, regarding the 787 dreamliners that landed at

disaster of the day. boeing 787, let's get to phil with the latest. >> talking about 787 dreamliner, japan airliner at the boston airport. boeing shares have been hammered, down 3% of the day, down 5% over the last few days. this stock has not fallen too much since october 2011. the market cap here greater than $3.1 billion. shows you how much investor headline risk is out there when it comes to boeing shares. here is part of the reason why. look at pictures in the last hour from boston. dreamliner suffered a fuel leak at boston airport. about 4,000 gallons of fuel leaking on the tarmac there. it happened on a flight scheduled to leave around noon to tokyo. remember december 5th, faa ordered all airlines to check their 787 fuel lines because japan airlines out of japan, they both reported problems. unclear if this leak due to the problem. one example of another problem in the last month when it comes to the dreamliner. we put this time line up here because this really shows you the headline risk built into boeing right now. one reason that the investors are so worried, going back st

a night may for boeing as the airplanes are under investigation after back-to-back days of problems in boston. yesterday one of the jets spilled about 40 gallons of fuel on the runway at logan international airport. that's one day after an electrical fire caused by an exploding battery grounded a different dreamliner plane, also at logan airport. for more on boeing's troubles, let's go to jeff cutmoore in london. >> reporter: good morning to you. i suppose the good news here is ana has orders for 45 more jets, and they said we will to the change our orders. clearly this is a headache for boeing, because they have been beset by a slew of problems with the technicals on this wide-bodied jet. there are a whole bunch of other companies lined up here to take them, virgin airways, british airways, they will want to see some of these technical problems sorted out before they get delivery. worth pointing out the stock down over 4% over the last couple of trading days as a result of these concerns. >> we wonder if there will be cancellations because boeing doesn't collect their money until t

another nightmare for the dreamliner appeared in another of the boeing 787's is being cancelled, this time to break problems occurred this is the third incident in two days. it has raised safety worries about the aircraft. here's a report from new york. >> in grounded, the 787 dreamliner was bound for it had to be sent back to the gate -- bound for tokyo. it had to be sent back to the gate because of the problem with the brakes. on tuesday, a fuel leak caused japan airlines to cancel take off of one of its 787 jets in boston. a day earlier at the same airport, a battery pack caught fire on an empty plain. speaking of the battery incident, boeing said it is cooperating with the relevant safety authorities and before providing more detail, we will give our technical teams the time they need to do a thorough job and ensure we are dealing with facts, not speculation. boeing's stock price fell on the news after years -- and after years of delays, the dreamliner went into operation in late 2011. now some question how safe is the 787. >> it is something the ntsb will take a very careful look

now, the boeing 787 is not exactly living the dream. it instead after years of delays, the most technologically advanced airliner has hit some bumps. monday, a fire ignited on board the airplane in boston, and there's been an oily, problems with the brake system, and a cracked a cockpit window. today it was announced the faa would review the airplane, but the authorities stress their belief in its safety. are these just bumps to the road or part of a big problem? joining me earlier, i spoke with paul, who is an expert in aviation. thank you very much for coming in. there is a mixed message from the u.s. regulators. they say the airplane is safe, but they are reviewing its safety. what do you make of that? >> i think the faa wants to assure the public this airplane has met the standards. they're putting together a team to look at it. none of these events look connected. any new aircraft faces these kinds of problems often. when the 777 was introduced, it had problems. it has flown 17 years without a fatality. the 1-380 had cracks in its wings, a very serious on contained engine f
